One of the largest areas where brides-to-be cry for help is over problems with families. It ranges from mothers trying to take over to other ghastly problems where one (or both) sets of parents are divorced and not speaking to one another. In my own case I really couldn't foresee that there would be any difficulties, after all, both myself and my beloved are mature, middle aged people, why would there be any problems with our families?

So much for theory.

My beloved has seemed reluctant to let his side know about his impending change in status. I now see why. We bought a ring last week (of which more in a separate post), and it became rather hard to hide that we were thinking about getting married. My beloved warned me that his family would try and hijack things to which my response was, only if we let them. Apparently his sister is already arranging a beach wedding for us abroad, although quite why she seems to think the arrangements have anything to do with her I don't know. Fortunately, since neither of us have any desire for a beach wedding abroad, it's not too hard to turn down, but I hope we're not going to get too much grief. Sigh.

I don't suppose eloping is possible?

Sounds like his sister wants a seaside vacation.

People who enjoy organising people can be merciless. Better to nip it in the bud straight away, but maybe you could get her on your side by giving her specific organisational tasks to do? That way she' feels needed and can go around saying that it wouldn't have happened but for her, and you and The Fabulous One can concentrate on the fun stuff.
